What is Options Trading?

An option is a contract representing the right to sell or buy a financial product. The contract has an agreed-upon term for a set period of time. Options differ from a normal holding since they don't impart ownership. The whole premise of an option is that a holder pays a premium for the right to buy or sell the security within the contracted time frame.

What is a 401k?

A 401k is an employee contribution fund provide by an employer that is a tax-advantaged retirement savings plan. How it works is that you choose your investments from a range of investments that are either conservative or aggressive options within the plan. Once you have your plan, your contributions will automatically be put into the investment plan. Plans differ from company to company and some company's match employee contributions. The 401k name comes from the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (IRS) since section 401 goes over the employer contribution funds.

CFP vs. CFA

Both the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) are both very supreme finance designations. CFP is a professional designation for financial planners and the CFA is a professional designation for financial analysts. Both these designations have to go through a challenging course to be able to achieve and pass. My name is Austin Brendtke and I am a student who looks to help others and show my passion for financial freedom. I grew up in Walled Lake, MI, and then decided to go to Western Michigan for financial planning. With my introduction out of the way, Westward Student Wealth is a blog that looks to share insight from a passionate personal financial planning student.
